Baseball Glossary (still in progress)

ExpW-L (Pythagorean Record) - Based on number of runs scored and runs allowed, given by the formula: RS^1.82/((RS^1.82)+(RA^1.82))

MLVr - Marginal Lineup Value Rate; MLV estimates the value of a player by computing the change in expected run scoring between an average team, and a team with eight average players, plus our "hero." VORP - Value Over Replacement Leval; VORP is an estimate of total player value, which builds on MLVr and incorporates the position the player plays, how many games played, and what "replacement level" is for his position. Replacement level is a concept discussed in great detail in the article "Understanding and Measuring Replacement Level" by Keith Woolner, which was published in Baseball Prospectus 2002.
